Oh wow. This is so complex. I am having the same issue...as follows:
I am grading online participation in a number of discussion forums. As Moodle says "Forum posts can be rated using a scale (pre existing number or word scales)... This is a useful tool for giving students participation grades".
Contribution to each discussion forum is marked out of 5. I would like to use 1/2 marks as well as whole marks, so have created a scale as follows: 0,0.5,1,1.5,2,2.5... and so on up to 5. (There is only whole numbers in the options in the activity settings).
In order to use the scale I go to the activity settings, and under 'Ratings' select the 'scale' I want to use (my own).
This is fine, except that in the gradebook the maximum grade for this activity then shows as 11 and not as 5. To fix this so the number displayed to students is '5' I am told to change the Maximum Grade in the activity settings page....this means selecting '5' from the ratings/scale instead of the scale I have created, which means I can no longer use my scale.
There is no other way to set the maximum grade.
Can I suggest that the 'Scale' and 'Maximum Grade' options in the activity settings be seperated into two options?
Thanks
