multiple emails for assignment submisison

We have a course where the teachers on that course are being bombarded by emails saying that a student has submitted an assignment.  Its not the whole class, just a couple of students, but the teachers are getting 10/15/20 emails from the moodle with the assignment submission information.

Any ideas what this is happening?
