Well, it is slightly defeatist to say that there is no way to force a student to watch a video. The film A Clockwork Orange illustrates one method that can be tired, but I would not recommend that pedagogic approach. I seem to remember that it did not have the desired effect in the film either. (Screen-shot here if you don't get the references. Not for the squeamish. Please, whatever you do, don't that this post as a serious suggestion.)

Clockwork Orange was my first thought as well. Highly disrecommended as a method, and definitely not for the squeamish.
There are kinder, gentler ways to assess whether a lecture has been watched.

please find the sample PDF which goes out of focus and difficult to put remarks by teacher.

Please help me to resolve the issue

There is also the fundamental point that watching the video may be a complete waste of time for some people, if they already konw all about what it tries to teach.

Is it possible to allow a student to view their feedback from a previous attempt?

The situation is as follows:

  1. A student submitted an assignment that had some issues
  2. The teacher added a feedback file
  3. We manually allowed another attempt for this student along with granting an extension
  4. The student can no longer  view the feedback file for the first attempt

As a teacher or administrator I can view the previous attempt file:

However this is what the student see on this same assignment:

So, is there any way to allow the previous attempt's feedback to show up for the student?

Add activity - assignment error

Am getting the following error when I add an activity (assignment) and click on save and display. (this is from moodle 3.9)

"Exception - Class 'core\progress\none' not found"

any clues/solutions?

I've just given this a try on our test Moodle server and it definitely does the trick.

Thanks so much for the suggestion.

Now I have to become confident that everything else Moodle will be happy on PHP 7.4.9 for our production server...

Hi,

I suppose you could modify Unoconv converter so that it converts images in HEIC format into PDF.

For Moodle 3.9, in the function start_document_conversion defined in moodle/files/converter/unoconv/classes/converter.php, you may want to call an external command, say, imagemagick to convert $filename from heic to jpg format before exec($cmd).  You may also want to modify the function is_format_supported($format)  so that it returns true for 'heic'.

Database: where are assignment restrictions stored?

I am a Moodle developer and need to find out where in the database the restriction values of an assignment (so only certain students may participate) are stored.

Could someone please point me into the right direction?

In the course Gradebook, hide (eye icon) the Assignment's Grade Item.

White screen of death - No assignment features / functionality nada

Assignment functionality is a total whiteout.
If I use the >Add an activity> Assignment feature I get a white screen

If I try and duplicate a previous assignment add it to the share cart ...I get a white screen
I can't pin down any activity or plug ins I might have loaded which would have done this.
Ive checked all my setting (manager) and have access.
Any ideas.

Turn on Debugging and, if that doesn't display a useful error message, check your server error logs.

If you post the error message, someone may be able to advise you on it.

I have a similar issue. I can add activities when logged in as the system administrator but if I login with an account assigned as Course Creator role the option to "Add an activity or resource" when in edit mode on a course is missing. I can add a Topic and I can view activities created by the admin account I just can't add any. I have gone through the permissions screen for the Course Creator role and think everything is set to Allow for resources and activities.

I am on Moodle 3.8 on Linux.

Any insights?

Multiple Rubrics for one assignment

Hi all I hope you and your family are well in these times. 

We are  trying to resolve the issues of a different rubric per student. We have a course that has similar final grades but 20 different scenarios. We wanted to use tabs on the grader page in description field to resolve this, instead of making 20 assignments. However as you guys probably know once saved moodle strips out the tab code. Is there anyway around this, that is to have multiple tabs in the description field on the grader page to allow for 20 rubrics on one assignment.

ideally we would obviously want to make multiple rubrics and then assign them individually per student but this sees an even more impossible task

I'm afraid none of those errors look to be relevant.

If you turn Debugging on for the site, does the white page get replaced by a more useful error message? (If the debugging settings in the user interface don't solve the problem, maybe adding them to config.php, on a temporary basis, might help).

I guessed that you mean go to Home > Site administration >Development> Debugging and set 'display debug messages' to 'yes' ?
When I do that I get the following specific error message (if I try and add a new assignment task)

Davo.....AAARRRRGGGHHH FIXED IT!!!! I am sooooo happy.
I noticed the original error said something about assign/youtube/submission and remembered I loaded a plug in YOu Tube Submissions assingsubmission_youtube so I deleted that plug in and voila! Assignments now work.

Thank you so much for your guidance - I would never have found that in a million years! Am so happy Thank you so much smile
