got it! you have to configure google drive converter and change rtf to pdf

Uploading 2 documents to be assessed but marking 1

Hi all,
I would like my students to upload 2 pieces of work (1 written essay and one pdf with pictures) but i would like them to get 1 final mark and not mark these 2 pieces separately. At the moment, it shows as part1 and part 2 and both pieces need to be marked? Any ideas?

I must add that this worked fine with word 2010 docx files but not with word 2016 and images were not visualized either. So our solution was to follow the steps to install unoconv and that works perfect, all files from now on are converted (i disabled google drive converter and left only unoconv (older submissions still get blanck page)

Course Creator AND Teacher can't add activities& resources - "Assignment"
When Teacher - "editingteacher" - and/or Course creator try to publish on course page an "Assignment" this type of activity isn't visible in list of "Activities".
Steps to reproduce:
1.In course I activated editing mode,
2.Click on a link from course page "Add Activity or Resource",
3.From list of types of activities I wanted to select "Assignment", BUT isn't displayed on that list.
My version of Moodle is in romanian installed . "Assignment" term from english translated in romanian is "Lucrare".
That said in list of "activities" doesn't show up neither "Assignment" or "Lucrare", whatever the order of sort will be.
Versions of software installed:
Moodle ver.: 3.8.1
Php ver.: 7.3.13
MySQL ver.: 5.7.29

Are you the administrator? Can you - or if you are not the administrator, can you ask the administrator to - check Site administration / Plugins / Activity modules / Manage activities? And make sure Assignment is not hidden?

Email Student When Assignment is Graded

I have a course, where the basic premise is I want students to complete an assignment.
Once they receive a grade, I want them to be sent a notification via email to check their grade and complete the course (which entails a viewing a lesson related to the assignment).
I cannot seem to make this happen in the assignment settings. The Default setting for "Notify students" is set to Yes.
From the other threads I found, it seems like Moodle is supposed to send a notification (the bell icon) when that setting is set to Yes but that doesn't work for me either. Regardless, a notification wouldn't do me a whole lot of good. I need students to be prompted from outside of Moodle that their grade is ready.
Any help, I would greatly appreciate it.

Yes, I checked that and is not hidden. I suspect that permisions for the roles ("editingteacher" and "coursecreator") are trashed somehow because is afected any user with role of profesor and even the new created user enrolled in course with the role of Profesor "editingteacher" or course creator.

I enabled in Site Administration / Development / Debugging and now I get some weird messages that wasn't displayed until now but this seems unrelated to permissions/ASSIGNMENT ACTIVITY problem.
Related to access at ASSIGNMENT ACTIVITY, I want to show you why I believe that is a problem with role or permissions gived for activity.

This user it supposed to be an Profesor "editingteacher" on ALL COURSES ( IT WAS ENROLLED IN ALL COURSES AS PROFESOR "editingteacher" ) from my platform because it's my boss and she needs access to courses and students for some statistics and teaching materials that needs to be uploaded.
So, she now have just Course creator that is inexplicable for me, because I enrolled in multiple courses as Profesor "editingteacher".
I don't know for sure but I suspect that the role Course creator must have the same permissions as "editingteacher", I don't know that it was designed by default to have access to ASSIGNMENT ACTIVITY MODULE.

I need to unblock very fast this activity/roles because all activity from daily courses will be moved online because of COVID-19.

Then go to Site administration / Users / Permissions /Define roles and then click to edit the Teacher role and the Course creator role and click the Reset button. This will revert any changes made to the permissions of these roles - back to default. Then if you really need to have someone with editing rights in all the courses (not normally recommended at all but these are strange times) then use the Teacher role in instead of the Course creator role.

Done that! Twice even! The behavior of user with role "editingteacher" didn't change. No ASSIGNMENT activity appeared in activity type list for role Profesor "editingteacher".

Check the authenticated user role. It if is prohibited for an authenticated user it will not be allowed for a teacher even if it says so.

Yes, you are right: for role "Authenticated user" it say: mod/assign:addinstance: "prohibit".

You go to Site administration / Users / Permissions /Define roles and then click to edit the Authenticated user role. Then you search for the capability and change it back to default. Or - you could simply press the Reset button to reset the Authenticated user role back to default - it will change all modified permissions in one go.

Thanks, John. The default notification setting for the site was a helpful tip. Larger problem was on the server end, where the default setting was to send email only when logged in.

Assignment grading usually requires horizontal scrolling

I'm sure there are discussions about this, but I couldn't find them with a bit of googling, searched the tracker too:
Assignment grading table is quite large and usually requires horizontal scrolling. With a lot of students the scroll bar is very far from the row that the teacher is focusing on. Hiding the columns helps a bit, but are there some plugins and/or experimental user interfaces that would make grading assignments less cumbersome in Moodle?
