Grading Summary does not correctly report submissions

Hi all,

We upgraded to Moodle 2.3.1 and converted all assignments in our installations to the new assignment module. We now find that the new "grading summary" does not reflect the actual number of submissions in a given assignment, i.e. it often lists more submissions than there actually are available on the grading page(s). There can be, for example, 29 submissions from students who are enrolled in the course, yet the grading summary indicates there are 49 submissions.

This could be due to the grading summary also counting old submissions from students who are no longer enrolled in the course (I still have to test that). And for new runs of existing courses this problem could be overcome by resetting the assignment submissions*. However, this is not feasible in an ongoing course and could still cause confusion if students unenrol during a course but their submissions are still counted.

Shouldn't it be so that the grading summary only reports submissions from students who are actually enrolled in the course? I am trying to find out if anyone else has this same issue before making a bug report in the tracker. This seems to affect only converted assignments and thus does not fit under MDLQA-1882.

Rgrds,
Paul.

*. I just noticed that there is no reset option for the new assignment module (yet!), at least not in our Moodle installations...
